The two days after Christmas I went on a couple small adventures with the family including a heritage farm and a long drive to a beautiful beach and then more driving to ice cream.
The heritage farm was a pretty cool place... but for kids. I was honestly slightly bored and would have loved to have been napping by the pool instead. The kids got to pat a horse and sheep. We got to see a lamb sheered, which I honestly didn't really enjoy because it looked extremely unpleasant for the poor thing. Mich milked a cow for the first time and I got instructions on how to throw a boomerang (but didn't get to throw one).
We took a long drive (was mostly long because Daniel made a wrong turn) to a beach, but it was totally worth it. The view was so visually dynamic - cliffs, rocks, tide pools, blue water meeting the blue sky, a huge old rusty pipe, and sand and seaweed. Up close the view was even more dynamic as the cliff's color faded from a brown to a pink, the rocks ranged from dark to light and jagged to smooth, the shells left behind by the animals (mostly snails) were beautiful with swirls and jagged stripes. The tide pools ranged from small enough for an infant's foot to large enough for several people to swim in. And Mich and Ben, they were in heaven. Without a single ounce of fear they just climbed over all the rocks. Ben often sat at whichever tide pool he could find and paddled his feet in it. At some point they stripped off their clothes, down to their undies, and without a care in the world, just went crazy. they were throwing wet sand, splashing, and running in the water. From the moment we stepped foot on the beach until we got back in the car an hour later their smiles did not leave their faces. Afterwards we continued the long drive to a town Daniel and Jen were familiar with for some ice cream and a play in the park.
